We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Production Manager role in a UK-based Food and Beverage Manufacturing company. The Deputy Production Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the Production Manager and Factory Director in supervising all aspects of the production process. This includes managing labor and material resources to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while maintaining exceptional standards of quality, food safety, and workplace safety. Reporting directly to the Factory Director, the Deputy Production Manager is responsible for providing regular progress updates and ensuring seamless operations. This position demands strong leadership abilities, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to driving continuous improvement in a dynamic, high-pressure, and fast-paced environment.

Job Requirements:

 

  • GCSEs in Maths and English are mandatory.
  • A degree or relevant qualification in Production Management, Food Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. 
  • Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Level 3 HACCP certification or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • Health and Safety Certification: IOSH certification for health and safety management is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years working in chilled or frozen food production environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, nurture talent, and achieve performance objectives.
  • Proven track record in identifying and addressing bottlenecks and inefficiencies within production processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP) and health and safety regulations compliance.
  • Hands-on experience in production planning and performance analysis to enhance resource utilization and efficiency.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities, adept at motivating teams and performing well under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Production Planning: Support creating and managing daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to meet customer demands efficiently. Ensure seamless production processes and consistent achievement of production targets.
  • Workflow Optimization: Supervise production operations to pinpoint bottlenecks and identify areas for improvement. Implement adjustments to enhance productivity and ensure a steady workflow across shifts.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of production equipment, ensuring it remains in optimal working condition. Collaborate with maintenance teams to address repairs promptly and minimize downtimes.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and guide the production team, ensuring alignment with daily production objectives. Foster effective teamwork and maintain clear communication to achieve shared goals.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Coordinate with departments like quality control, procurement, and logistics to ensure seamless communication and resource allocation for efficient production operations.
  • Employee Training: Deliver on-the-job training to enhance staff skills, promote adherence to safety protocols, and maintain production standards. Provide comprehensive support to new employees during onboarding.
  • Resource Management: Optimize the use of labor, materials, and equipment to achieve production targets efficiently while minimizing waste. Continuously monitor resource allocation and adjust as needed to sustain productivity.
  • Cost Control: Apply cost-saving strategies, including reducing material waste and maximizing labor efficiency. Regularly evaluate production processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality.
  • KPI Monitoring: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, material consumption, and waste levels. Leverage this data to make informed decisions that enhance overall production efficiently.
  • Quality Standards Maintenance: Ensure all products meet established quality standards and customer expectations. Promptly address quality issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Food Safety Compliance: Guarantee adherence to all food safety regulations, including HACCP and GMP guidelines. Perform regular inspections to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • New Product Launch Support: Collaborate with R&D and quality teams to facilitate the launch of new products. Supervise trial runs and adjust production processes as necessary for seamless integration into regular operations.

  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations on the production floor. Conduct regular safety audits and provide training to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Incident Management: Investigate workplace accidents or incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence while ensuring adherence to safety standards.
  • Promote Safety Culture: Regularly review and update safety protocols while fostering a culture of safety awareness among production staff.
  • Production Performance Monitoring: Track production performance metrics, identify inefficiencies, and recommend process adjustments to boost efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to refine production processes, focusing on improving output and reducing costs. Collaborate with the team to identify and implement enhancement opportunities.
  • Technology Integration: Stay updated on emerging production technologies and tools that could enhance efficiency. Recommend and advocate for relevant upgrades or innovations.
  • Timely Deliveries: Manage production schedules to ensure products are manufactured and delivered on time. Coordinate with logistics and sales teams to streamline delivery processes.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve production challenges, including delays and quality issues, that could affect customer satisfaction. Work closely with customer service to communicate and resolve concerns efficiently.
