We have an exciting opportunity for a Part-time Assistant Accountant role in a Canada-based Higher Education Service Provider. They are looking for a highly motivated and seasoned Assistant Accountant to join the finance team, supporting the Head of Finance and Chief Operating Officer in overseeing the key accounts of the University of Portsmouth's London Campus. The responsibilities associated with this role-play a crucial part in ensuring the new campus's financial well-being and strategic development.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping experience encompassing the responsibilities outlined in the key duties, along with proficient reconciliation skills.
- Holds a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- A preference for professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, or ACA.
- Candidates in the process of obtaining qualifications with relevant experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated track record in a role similar to Assistant Accountant.
- Proficiency in accounting software is crucial, with a preference for expertise in QuickBooks.
- Advanced skills in financial modeling and a high level of proficiency in Excel.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis.
- Sharp analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
- Generate and distribute purchase orders.
- Record invoices and credit notes as necessary.
- Facilitate the preparation and execution of supplier payments.
- Oversee credit control activities.
- Upload invoices to SharePoint and manage the organization of finance folder filing within Sharepoint.
- Generate sales invoices and oversee debtor control.
- Submit and reconcile monthly pension contributions.
- Maintain the fixed assets register and inventory list.
- Analyze corporate card expenses.
- Conduct reconciliations for bank, VAT, intercompany accounts, payroll, and other relevant accounts.
- Process monthly accruals, prepayments, and journals.
- Execute month-end and year-end procedures.
- Generate monthly reports for the management team and oversee financial performance through result measurement and analysis, taking corrective actions and mitigating the impact of variances.
- Collaborate with the Senior Accountant and Chief Accountant to develop budgets.
- Serve as the point of contact for communication across departments.
- Provide support during audits.
- Compile accounts up to the trial balance stage.
- Verify the completeness and compliance of all financial records with current legislation.
- Ensure that processes and tasks adhere to current legislation and align with company policies within specified time frames.
- Collaborate in the ongoing enhancement of financial processes and systems.
- Perform other duties as delegated.
