We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Developer role in a UK-based Retail company. It is a successful e-commerce retailer that sells licensed, premium, movie, videogame, and comic book merchandise from well-known brands. 

The Product Developer will work together with the design group, manage the entire product development cycle, and communicate with suppliers and factories to ensure quality and timely merchandise production. This position entails project management, quality assurance, and logistical coordination.

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or HND in Product Development or an equivalent field is required.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in product development is required, as well as a strong portfolio demonstrating merchandising experience.
  • Delicate detail-oriented eye with a keen design sense.
  • Excel proficiency is essential.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent time management skills and an eye for organization.
  • Ability to function independently while cooperating with the team.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication abilities.
  • Desire to learn and grow.
  • English fluency.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese.
  • Capability to commute to/relocate to Cradley Heath.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Designer daily and provide periodic updates on developmental and manufacturing challenges.
  • Work closely with the design team to promote a positive, imaginative environment.
  • Ensure that each project's entire product development process is managed and that all stages are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Maintain and update project timelines regularly, keeping staff updated on deadlines.
  • Facilitate the approval of designs and pre-production samples across licensing brands.
  • Obtain and negotiate quotations from vendors to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Coordination of sample development across multiple locations, including China, the UK, and overseas.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on product characteristics such as shape, color, material, layout particulars, and packaging before production.
  • Establish relationships with manufacturers and suppliers while finding new supplies, controlling samples, and managing mass production.
  • Plan inspections near the end of the manufacturing process to ensure high-quality output.
  • Plan the logistics for cargo shipments by air and sea to the UK, making sure they arrive on time and are affordable.
  • Upon arrival, evaluate large samples and give factories any pertinent feedback.
  • Manage and expand the sample library to ensure it is a well-organized and useful resource.
  • Create samples in advance of internal/external meetings and reviews of the product line.
  • Regularly attend internal and external meetings and participate by adding value to the discussions.
  • Participate in periodic trade shows and fairs as needed to keep up with industry trends and network.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to travel overseas, particularly to China, as needed.
