We have an exciting opportunity for a Category Manager - Retail Grocery in a Richmond-based retail grocery company. The company grew rapidly and is now one of the largest Asian supermarket chains, with plans to continue expanding. The Category Manager will be accountable for meeting budgeted sales, gross profit, and other KPIs.

Job Requirements:

  • Have a university degree, preferably in Business Administration or Commerce.
  • Possess at least 3+ years' worth of experience in the procurement of grocery products.
  • Experience working with domestic and international dairy and frozen suppliers and distributors in the past is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of grocery products, as well as product specifications, pricing, and other mandatory standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Have a proven track record of delivering and managing results, as well as the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to communicate effectively cuts across all organizational levels and with external stakeholders.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the capacity to find solutions independently.
  • Keep up with market trends and information efficiently.
  • strong analytical abilities and the capacity to produce and analyze information for commercial purposes.
  • Proven negotiation skills, as well as sound business judgment, and decision-making abilities, as well as knowledge of import, procurement, and US trade practices.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel both locally and internationally as needed.
  • English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) bilingualism.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and carry out long-term product development strategies.
  • Analyse data and market insights.
  • Investigate consumer requirements and wants.
  • Reach the predetermined goals and other KPIs, such as turnover, gross profit, sales, monthly budget, unfilled rate, slow-moving goods, new product development, import shipment quality control, promotion plan and sales achievement, and wastage management.
  • Responsible for the company's overall performance in the relevant category.
  • Reach the goals for day-on-hand and all inventory.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure that objectives are being met by analyzing financial results, performing variance analyses by period, and conducting these analyses.
  • To satisfy the demands of Asian and mainstream customers, find and buy grocery products locally, through local distributors and/or suppliers.
  • Continue to increase the number of products and develop new business opportunities by establishing networks with new local grocery (including leisure) vendors and distributors.
  • Cultivate and expand existing supplier and distributor relationships through developing connections and constant negotiations.
  • accountable for the marketing and promotion of products by working closely with vendors to create innovative programs that take advantage of potential business opportunities.
  • Create sales promotion programs, as well as sampling and promotional campaigns.
  • Plan, manage, and carry out promotional campaigns.
  • Provide continuous guidance, education, and professional development, such as workshops, seminars, classes, and meetings, to ensure that employees are up to date on market trends and customer needs.
  • Actively manage employee performance by taking promptly and appropriately progressive actions to recognize or discipline employees' behaviors.
  • Develop positive working relationships with internal divisions to aid in the development and operation of your company.
  • Other tasks as assigned by superior(s).
