We have an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Manager role for a food retails company based in London. The company is a leading retailer of oriental foods in the UK. The company is recruiting for an experienced (in food retail) Purchasing Manager to assist with the organisational goals of the multiple stores located around London.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong communication and negotiating skills are required to work with individuals of various levels and backgrounds.
  • Ability to operate under pressure.
  • Chinese language proficiency is essential.
  • Capability to develop good connections with both internal and external suppliers.
  • Analytical abilities, numeracy, and attention to detail are exceptional.
  • Extremely well-organized and self-motivated.
  • Flexible to work in different shifts.
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Office) and moderate Excel abilities are required.
  • Sage expertise is desirable.
  • Experience in FMCG and a buying setting in the food business is preferred.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the Purchasing department and its personnel.
  • Ensure enough stock availability for all critical items, both imported and domestic, to achieve peak performance, profitability, and increased turnover.
  • Deliver a balanced, diverse, and profitable product portfolio for each site, reflecting market trends and local client demand.
  • Negotiate competitive rates with suppliers and secure promotional offers.
  • Monitor and guarantee that any store product queries are handled as soon as possible by the Purchasing department.
  • Make weekly reports on inventory levels, product/category performance, range revisions, and current market data.
  • Look for new suppliers and product lines to recommend to the board of directors.
  • Oversee and assess marketing promotions in collaboration with the purchasing and marketing departments.
  • Monitor and recommend marketing strategies for out-of-date items.
  • Ascertain that appropriate product information, such as pricing, description, and packaging is entered into the system.
  • Examine and refine your purchasing and pricing strategy.
  • Maintain a successful exit strategy for discontinued and seasonal goods.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop a tailored plan and retailing strategy for each store's objectives.
  • Analyze and apply business data to product procurement, including predictions, sales figures, and anticipated trends.
  • Establish relationships with vendors to assist business growth and maximise profitability.
  • Monitor departmental performance in relation to the Purchasing department's KPIs.
  • Learn and understand each team member's duties and processes ahead of time.
  • Hold frequent performance evaluations and yearly assessments for team members to discover chances for advancement and to ensure a succession plan is in place for more senior positions.
